Discover the World of Pilari Helsinki

Pilari [FI] /ˈpilɑri/

In Finnish, "pilari" means pillar — an architectural form of purity, strength, and timelessness. A single pillar stands with quiet elegance, commanding space and evoking solitude. However, when joined by others, pillars transcend individuality to achieve unity and purpose. Together, they form structures of enduring beauty and strength, embodying resilience and harmony. For Pilari Helsinki, the pillar symbolizes the power of connection — how distinct elements, when brought together, create something extraordinary. It’s a testament to the balance of individuality and collective strength, both in design and life.

"I create art that continuously shifts with its environment, ever-evolving compositions that never look the same twice, while remaining an anchor of reflection in a world that is always moving. I am sculpting the essence of change."

With eight years of experience in architecture and specialized knowledge in timber structures, my career has been shaped by a deep appreciation for sustainable design and the transformative power of natural materials. Helsinki, as a vibrant and inspiring design hub, played a pivotal role in sparking my creative journey.

My diploma project (MUSE Helsinki), a museum and education complex on Seurasaari Island in Helsinki, examined the connection between nature, history, contemporary design and innovation in solid timber structures. The international awards and recognitions I have received throughout my career continue to inspire me to push boundaries, creating designs that are bold, adaptable, and deeply connected to their environment.

Pilari Helsinki represents my creative evolution, allowing me to express my vision in a new, creative way. The collections are designed with the same precision and thoughtfulness I apply to architecture, creating pieces that are as dynamic as the world around them, while remaining rooted in the timeless values of craftsmanship and sustainability.

Visual Narratives 1/3

A Return to Origins

By placing my artworks into the serene landscapes that inspired them represents a symbolic homecoming — a return to their origins. For a fleeting moment, the pieces arrive in nature, touching the rocks, the ground, the moss, and becoming part of the landscape. Yet, just as quickly as they appear, they disappear, leaving no trace behind, no mark to disrupt the delicate balance of the environment.

The Dialogue

This brief arrival and disappearance reflect a meditation on impermanence and the fleeting nature of existence. Captured in a single photograph, these moments symbolize a profound dialogue between the structural beauty of human creation and the organic forms of nature. It is a meeting of contrasts, where the deliberate meets the untamed, and the human-made becomes part of something eternal.

Pilari in Focus

The transient presence of these artworks underscores the essence of change, reminding us that all things, no matter how carefully constructed, are temporary guests within the larger ecosystem. These encounters, though brief, are preserved through this collection, offering a timeless reflection on harmony, balance, and the interconnected rhythms of nature and creation.

Early Sketches

Drawing everything allows me to explore freely. I also love to work with leftover papers, transforming them into collages. While many sketches remain as they are, they can spark fresh concepts — turning remnants into meaningful pieces of art.

The Crafting Process

Every piece I create is handmade, carefully crafted with an unwavering attention to detail. The precision and dedication in my work speak through each line, curve, and surface. The fusion of traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques and materials is the language my artworks use.

Final Touches

Each finished artwork is more than an object — it’s a living presence. It interacts with its surroundings, reflecting light, colours, and shapes from the environment. As the day changes, so does the piece, transforming with every shift of sunlight or shadow.

Pilari Helsinki's Commitment to Sustainability

THE LATEST COLLECTION

Interwoven Rhythms

This series of paper relief artworks explores the delicate interplay of light, texture, and reflection. Crafted with precision, each piece combines premium cotton paper with sustainably sourced acrylic glass mirrors. Layers of black and white paper are arranged to form a rhythmic, monochromatic grid. The mirrored inserts catch and scatter light, guiding the viewer’s gaze to different points within the composition. This interplay transforms the seemingly static grid into something dynamic — alive with shifting light and perspective, revealing new details with every glance.

Each piece is guided by a unifying principle, yet the placement of the mirrors varies across the limited editions, ensuring every artwork is truly one-of-a-kind within the series. The thoughtful positioning of each mirror invites reflection — both literal and philosophical — on presence and absence. The reflective squares capture fleeting glimpses of their surroundings, including the viewer, creating a dynamic interaction. The result is more than a static image; it’s a living experience—a mirror that evolves with the world it inhabits.
